Indianapolis Isshinryu Bushido
The Indianapolis Isshinryu
Bushido club was formed by long time students of Master John C.
Lennox at the time of his retirement, from the Mudokwan Judo & Karate School
in 1997. Isshinryu Bushido began as a Lawrence Community Education
program and operated successfully for 12 years. With the closing of
all of Community Education’s classes in 2009, the school has transformed
into an LLC Corporation Operated by Sensei’s John Hoffmire, Larry
Tylenda, Janet Dicken, and Shellee Tylenda. Isshinryu bushido
instructors continue the philosophy of teaching on a volunteer basis
to keep student costs low. Our fees generally cover the cost of our
facility. Our priority is on building character, confidence,
discipline and good sportsmanship in our students. We have over the
past 12 years had several students win and place well in both local
and world competition. More importantly we have taught many students
who have grown into honest responsible adults. That we are very
proud of.
Currently the Isshinryu
Bushido club is involved in hosting the 2011 IWKA World Tournament.
This tournament will have between 500 – 700 competitors. The 2011
tournament will be the John C Lennox Memorial Tournament. Our head
Sensei John Hoffmire also assisted with the IWKA World tournaments
in Indianapolis
in 1983 and in 2001.
It is our hope to continue to serve the community
in the years to come.
